Dear Redbird Nation,

The fall semester is underway here in Normal, and campus is buzzing with energy. There's a sense of optimism around Illinois State Athletics that we haven't felt in years, and now it's time to turn that optimism into action. The best part about college sports? Every season, every game, and every play become a fresh chance to prove ourselves.

Before we look ahead, let's celebrate some incredible highlights from last year:

•    MVC All-Sports Trophy: For the fifth time in six years, Illinois State claimed the MVC's top honor, thanks in large part to strong finishes by our track & field and golf programs. This marks our 17th All-Sports Trophy in program history.
•    Record-Setting Fundraising: We raised more than $6 million – the second-highest total in ISU Athletics history – including 40 major gifts of $25,000 or more.
•    Ticket Sales Growth: Season ticket sales are up across all four ticketed sports for the second consecutive year – Football, Volleyball, Men's Basketball, and Women's Basketball. Let's keep that momentum going! Call 309-438-8000 to reserve your seats today.
•    Community Events: Ballin' on Beaufort Vol. 3 returns to Uptown Normal on October 1st and it's shaping up to be the best one yet.
•    Football Momentum: Redbird Football returned to the playoffs in 2024 and is ranked 6th nationally in multiple preseason polls in 2025. Coach Spack has this team ready for another thrilling season, so don't miss the home opener on September 6th.
•    Coaching Excellence: This summer we extended contracts for Coach Pedon, Coach Gillespie, and Coach Kralis – first-class leaders committed to our student-athletes and programs. We also welcomed three head coaches: Cassandra Ringer for Gymnastics, Jackie Szymoniak for Women's Golf, and Maja Kovacek, who will lead Men's Tennis in addition to her role as Women's Tennis head coach.
•    National Recognition: Redbird Men's Basketball was featured in Sports Illustrated for keeping its core intact in the ever-changing landscape of the transfer portal and NIL.
•    Historic Gift: Thanks to alumni Jay Bergman, we will debut Jay and Lori Bergman Field on September 6th. Their generosity – one of the top three largest gifts in ISU Athletics history – will fund key enhancements for our football program.

About Reggie the Redbird
A few weeks ago at our BBQ with the Birds event for donors and season ticket holders, we unveiled a refreshed version of our beloved mascot, Reggie. The goal was to create a more athletic, comfortable, and engaging costume for gameday – especially for interacting with our youngest fans and connecting with our students. We know the new look sparked plenty of conversation on social media. While the suit has changed, Reggie's personality, energy, and spirit remain the same. Our traditions are alive and well – and so is the passion that makes this community special.
