Normal, Ill. -- Illinois State redshirt senior Abby Basler has been named the Missouri Valley Conference (MVC) Offensive Player of the Week for the second week of the 2021 season.
The Redbirds have now grabbed MVC Offensive Player of the Week honors for the second week in a row, with senior Ashley Santos getting the honor last week.
Basler stood out for ISU in the 3-1 loss at SLU, playing the whole 90 minutes. With less than a minute left in the first half the St. Louis, Mo. native fired a shot from the top of the box that found the back right corner of the goal. The goal was Basler's first of the season.
Basler now becomes three-time MVC Player of the Week, adding to her already impressive resume as a Redbird which includes: 2019 All-MVC Honorable Mention, 2018 All-MVC First Team, and 2018 MVC All-Tournament Team honors.
The Redbirds look to rebound from their loss against Saint Louis, as the team travels to Evansville, Ind. to take on the Aces on Saturday, February 27. The match will be Illinois State's first match of MVC conference play.
