Rockford, Ill. -- The Illinois State women's soccer team took on the DePaul Blue Demons at Sportscore in Rockford, Ill. on Wednesday afternoon. The hard-fought match ended in a draw at 1-1.
The defensive battle was scoreless at the end of the first half between the Redbirds and Blue Demons. Redshirt sophomore goalkeeper Priya Gillan collected five saves through the first 45 minutes, with Illinois State tallying five shots, putting two on goal.
DePaul senior Morgan Turner netted the first goal of the game to open the second half. In the 74th minute, redshirt senior Abby Basler scored the equalizer, driving the ball to the top left corner from distance. The Redbird goal was assisted by junior Riley O'Brien.
Basler was the only Redbird to log a full 90 minutes of play, firing a team high 3 shots on goal.
ISU's three goalkeepers split time in net, with redshirt sophomore Priya Gillan taking the first half, and junior Jenny Scara splitting the second half with freshman Daniela Grgas. Grgas had three saves on four shots.
