NORMAL, Ill. – Fighting through cold temperatures and rain showers, the Illinois State soccer team defeated UNI, 2-0, on Thursday afternoon at Adelaide Street Field to snap a three-game losing streak and improve to 3-5 (3-3 MVC) on the year. UNI dropped to 2-3-2 (2-3-1 MVC) with the loss.
Junior Shaina Dudas put the 'Birds on the board in the 16th minute, gathering the ball 25 yards out and striking it into the top right corner for her first goal of the season and fourth in her career.
Redshirt senior Abby Basler extended the lead 10 minutes into the second half, sending her Valley-leading fourth goal of the 2021 campaign into the bottom right corner through traffic from around 30 yards out. With the score, Basler has moved into sole possession of ninth place in ISU's career goals list, also tied for ninth with 51 career points.
Redshirt sophomore Priya Gillan and freshman Daniela Grgas split time in goal to combine for the shutout. Gillan spent the first 45 minutes in goal, recording three saves. Grgas subbed in after halftime and picked up her first career save on UNI's four attempted second half shots.
Basler, Ashley Santos, Alissa Ramsden and Michaela Kirschten all went the full 90 minutes for the Redbirds.
Illinois State outshot UNI, 16-13, including 6-4 in shots on goal. Basler led the 'Birds with four shots, placing three of them on goal.

The Redbirds have the weekend off before hitting the road next Saturday to play the Salukis at Southern Illinois. Kickoff in Carbondale, Ill. is set for 6 p.m.
