NORMAL, Ill. – The Illinois State baseball team was topped 12-0 against Evansville in the series opener on Friday at Duffy Bass Field.
The Purple Aces (20-15 overall, 5-7 Missouri Valley Conference) scored seven runs in the 1st inning to take a commanding lead.
Illinois State (13-22 overall, 4-5 MVC) saw fourth-year junior Jack Butler extend his hitting streak to 13 games.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Evansville scored the game's first 12 runs, plating seven in the 1st, four in the 3rd, and one in the 4th.
The game was called after seven innings because of the conference's run-rule.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- The Redbirds were out-hit 15-4. All of the hits in the game were singles.
- Fourth-year junior Jacob Gilmore and first-year freshman Josh Dima each threw a scoreless frame with one strikeout.
UP NEXT
Illinois State will face Evansville in a doubleheader Saturday and a single game on Sunday. The remaining three games will be on ESPN3.
