ST. LOUIS – Illinois State freshman tailback Pha'leak Brown earned a spot on the 2021 Missouri Valley Football Conference All-Newcomer Team Friday, as announced by the league office.
Brown played in all four games at running back for the Redbirds and was a vital component to the ISU rushing attack. The Chester, South Carolina, native led the team with 57 carries for 271 yards and a touchdown during the spring campaign. He averaged 4.8 yards per carry and 67.8 yards per game, which ranked fifth in the MVFC, and caught nine passes for 21 yards out of the backfield. Brown rushed for 86 yards against South Dakota in the season opener and capped off the season with a career-best 108 yards and a touchdown in a win over Western Illinois.
The Redbirds will open the 2021 fall season on September 4, when they host Butler in the season opener at Hancock Stadium.
