NORMAL, Ill. – The Illinois State softball team (25-6, 11-2 MVC) will look to keep its winning ways going on the road this weekend, when it travels to Evansville, Indiana, for a three-game series with the Purple Aces (19-17, 7-10 MVC).
A doubleheader is scheduled for 12 p.m. on Saturday, while the series finale is set for 11 a.m. on Sunday. Fans can follow the series via live stats and The Valley on ESPN.
CLOSING IN ON 200
Senior Morgan Day is just nine strikeouts away from reaching 200 on the year. When she reaches this number, she will become just the fifth Redbird in program history to do so. Former ISU standout Audra Rast holds the single season record that was set in 2003 with 299 strikeouts.
BIG BATS VS. BRADLEY
Three 'Birds hit .500 at the dish Thursday night in a doubleheader, shutout sweep of Bradley. Illinois State hit four home runs in the series-opening run rule of the Braves - the first time the Redbirds hit four in a single game since doing so against Evansville in 2017. Mack Leonard accounted for two of the four and now has a team-leading eight on the year.
FLYING SOLO
Four different Redbirds tallied a solo home run against Southern Illinois in the three-game series last weekend. Spenser Strandgard lifted one in the series opener, registering a home run for the second-straight game. Mack Leonard and Emme Olson each delivered one in ISU's comeback win in game two of the doubleheader against the Salukis, as the Redbirds won, 4-3. In Sunday's series finale, Jayden Standish bombed her fourth of the season off Saluki ace Sarah Harness, who had just previously given up five long balls in MVC play.
