VALPARAISO, Ind. – The Illinois State baseball team had its four-game winning streak snapped by Valparaiso after a 3-2 defeat Friday at Emory G. Bauer Field.
Fifth-year senior Colton Johnson gave up three runs in the 3rd inning for a line of eight innings, five hits and eight strikeouts for Illinois State (17-23 overall, 7-6 Missouri Valley Conference).
Fifth-year junior Aidan Huggins and fourth-year sophomore Jake McCaw both went 2-for-4. Fourth-year junior Jack Butler recorded two RBIs.
Valparaiso (9-22 overall, 4-9 MVC) was outhit by ISU, 6-5.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Jack Butler drew a bases-loaded walk to score Huggins to start the scoring, but the Redbirds grounded into an inning-ending double play.
Johnson fanned five-straight Valpo batters before the host's scored three times in the 3rd inning.
Fourth-year junior Tyson Hays tripled in the 7th inning prior to a Jack Butler RBI groundout.
ISU could not generate a base runner the rest of the game.

UP NEXT
Illinois State is scheduled to face Valparaiso twice on Saturday before the series finale on Sunday. The Sunday game will have radio but Saturday does not have a broadcast.
