WACO, Texas – For the third time this week, Illinois State senior offensive tackle Drew Himmelman found his name on an All-America list, as he earned a spot on the 2021 Spring AFCA Football Championship Subdivision (FCS) Coaches' All-America Team announced today by the American Football Coaches Association. Earlier this week, Himmelman earned First-Team All-America from Stats Perform FCS and The Associated Press as well.
This is the second All-America honor for Himmelman from the AFCA, who also named him a First-Team selection following the 2019 season. Himmelman and Austin Peay defensive back Kordell Jackson were the only two players to earn AFCA FCS Coaches' All-America honors for a second consecutive season. Illinois State now 17 AFCA All-America selections by 14 players.
A two-time All-MVFC First-Team selection at offensive tackle, Himmelman was also named the 2020-21 MVFC Scholar-Athlete of the Year. He was a repeat MVFC All-Academic Team first-team selection (2019) and was one of 12 national finalists for the 2020 Campbell Trophy, often referred to as the "Academic Heisman."
Himmelman started all four games for Illinois State at left tackle during the spring 2021 season and graded out at over 90 percent. He was a key member of the offensive line unit that helped the Redbirds rush for 172 yards per game and aided two different backs in rushing for over 100 yards in a game, including two in the team's win over Western Illinois.
Following the NFL Draft, he signed a priority free agent deal with the Denver Broncos.
