Anderson and McCaw Lead Redbirds in 2-1 Senior Day Loss

NORMAL, Ill. – Fourth-year junior Jack Anderson and fourth-year sophomore Jake McCaw led the Illinois State baseball team in a 2-1 loss against Missouri State as the program celebrated Senior Day on Sunday at Duffy Bass Field. 

Anderson threw six and two-thirds innings, allowing two runs while striking out four. McCaw had three hits, including a double and a triple to lead the offensive efforts for Illinois State (21-30 overall, 11-13 Missouri Valley Conference). 

The Redbirds got the lead-off batter on in the final four innings but were unable to scratch across the tying run.

The Bears (17-22 overall, 7-13 MVC) snapped Illinois State's seven-game winning streak at home. 

HOW IT HAPPENED  

Illinois State used two singles and two walks en route to scoring a run in the 1st inning on a bases-loaded walk drawn by fourth-year junior Nick Gile

Missouri State equalized the game at 1-1 with a two-out single in the 4th inning before plating a 7th-inning run to lead 2-1.

Second-year freshman Erik Kubiatowicz escaped a jam in the 8th inning to keep it a one-run game. 

The Redbirds got the lead-off batter on in the final four innings but were unable to scratch across the tying run. 

INSIDE THE BOX SCORES 

  • Third-year sophomore Derek Salata threw one and two-thirds innings in relief. 
  • McCaw has 33 hits in his last 65 at-bats. 
  • The Redbirds left eight on base.

Illinois State is scheduled to face Bradley for a three-game series over May 20-22.
