NORMAL, Ill. – The Illinois State softball team (28-9, 14-5 MVC) struggled to get going offensively today, falling 8-0 in five innings to UNI (27-17, 17-7 MVC).

BY THE NUMBERS / KEY INNINGS
- Mack Leonard singled in her first at-bat to extend her reached base streak to 22 games.
- A lead-off long ball in the top of the second helped the Panthers jump on the board, before a sac fly extended their lead.
- UNI broke open scoring in the top of the fifth, bringing Hannah Ross into relief sitting at a 6-0 deficit and bases loaded. The Panthers scratched two more runs across, but the Redbirds escaped the inning with a strikeout from the sophomore.
- Back-to-back hits by seniors Andrea Coursey and Spenser Strandgard kickstarted the Redbird rally in the home half of the inning, but the Panthers fought off the threat to grab the shutout win.
ON DECK
Illinois State will close the regular season next weekend at Valparaiso, before traveling to Evansville for the 2021 Missouri Valley Conference Championship, May 12-15.
