COLLEGE STATION, Texas – The two-time Missouri Valley Conference Champion, Jordyn Bruce, advanced to the quarterfinal in the 400-meter hurdles on day two of the NCAA West Preliminary Round at E.B. Cushing Stadium.
Bruce, who clocked in at 59.28 seconds, had one of the next six fastest times in the 400-meter hurdles after just missing an auto qualifying spot and taking fourth in her heat. She currently has the 18th-fastest time from the first round and will need to finish in the top-12 in the quarterfinal on Saturday to advance to the NCAA Track & Field Outdoor Championships.
Bruce's teammate and fellow fifth-year senior, Whitney Ward, also competed in the 400-meter hurdles and finished with a time of 1:01.42 which was the 40th fastest in the first round.
Three members of the women's throws squad competed in the hammer throw and the shot put on day two with fifth-year senior Tayler Weaver throwing both hammer and shot, senior Julia Bourke throwing hammer and freshman Mye'Joi Williams competing in the shot.
Both Bourke and Weaver threw above 56 meters in the hammer throw with Bourke just edging Weaver with a mark of 56.94 meters (186-10 ft.). Weaver finished the day with a throw of 56.48 meters (185-4 ft.).
In the shot put, Williams had the 35th-best throw at 15.50 meters (50-10.25 ft.), while Weaver was just behind in 37th with a throw of 15.37 meters (50-5.25 ft.).
