TERRE HAUTE, Ind. – Illinois State track & field concluded the 2021 outdoor regular season with six event wins at Indiana State's Pacesetter Sports Invite on Friday, May 7.
The throws squad led the charge, tallying wins in the men's shot put, men's discus and women's discus. Redshirt-junior Logan Calvin won both the shot put and the discus for the Redbird men, throwing 18.55m (60-10.75 ft.) in the shot put and 51.12m (167-8 ft.) in the discus. On the women's side, senior Sydney Laufenberg won the discus for the fifth time this season, throwing a winning mark of 51.65 meters (169-5 ft.).
Ryan Ashenbremer beat out his teammate Kellen Kravik in a jump-off in the men's pole vault to secure the win with a season-best clearance of 4.90 meters (16-0.75 ft.). That clearance moves him into sole possession of the No.3 spot in the MVC.
On the track it was the mid-distance guys that finished first with both Riley Wells and Jake Gillum getting wins in the invite section of their events. Wells edged his teammate Jack Anstey in the 800-meter run, winning with a time of 1:50.84. In the 1,500-meter run, Jake Gillum bested the second-place finisher by over two seconds to win with a time of 3:49.80.

The Redbirds will look to win two conference titles next weekend when they compete at the MVC Outdoor Championships in Carbondale, Illinois from May 14-16. According to Southern Illinois and the Missouri Valley Conference guidelines, no fans will be allowed to attend.
