EUGENE, Ore. – Discus thrower Sydney Laufenberg finished 23rd at the U.S. Olympic Track & Field Team Trials in Eugene, Oregon on Friday evening with a mark of 52.42m (172-0), short of qualifying for the finals.
A Clinton, Iowa native, Laufenberg completed her final meet in an Illinois State uniform. Over her Redbird career, Laufenberg notched two All-America honors and won three Missouri Valley Conference championships.
Most recently, Laufenberg finished fifth at the NCAA Outdoor Championships, earning First Team All-America honors, becoming the first female discus thrower in school history to garner the honor.
Joining Laufenberg at the trials, former Redbird Curt Jensen competed in the men's shot put, where he recorded a season-best throw of 20.62m (67-8), good for an eighth-place finish among the nation's best throwers.
