Illinois State Falls, 4-3, Against Western Illinois in OT After Late-Game Goal Barrage

MACOMB, Ill. – The Illinois State women's soccer team fell, 4-3, to Western Illinois in overtime after five goals were scored in a span of 19:57 to close the game at Hanson Field on Thursday.

The Redbirds (1-2 overall) put the pressure on the Leathernecks (1-2 overall) early in the first half, cashing in with senior Riley O'Brien's 15th-minute goal, assisted by fifth-year senior Sarah LaFayette. O'Brien has now scored in three-straight games to open the fall 2021 season.

Amy Andrews, who scored all four goals for WIU, answered quickly, netting a 23rd-minute goal. She scored in the 72nd minute to give WIU the lead and begin a barrage of goals.

Junior Allison Baker scored an equalizer in 75th after stealing the ball from a WIU defender but the Leathernecks retook the lead with a 77th minute goal.

LaFayette responded, tying the match at 3-3 in the 82nd minute. Andrews scored just 1:46 into OT to win the game for the Leathernecks.

Fifth-year senior Natalie Vaughn-Low recorded six shots as WIU held a 22-19 shots advantage.
