NORMAL, Ill. – Following an announcement by the Big Ten Conference on Wednesday that resulted in schedule changes for its league's schools, Illinois State football has announced a reshuffling of its 2022 non-conference slate.
The Redbirds will now open the season on Saturday, Sept. 3, at Camp Randall Stadium in Madison, Wisconsin, against the Badgers. The game had been previously scheduled for Sept. 24, but due to the Big Ten Conference adjustments the game was moved to the season opener for ISU.
Illinois State will then host Valparaiso on Sept. 10, before welcoming longtime in-state rival Eastern Illinois to Hancock Stadium on Sept. 17 for the 110th Mid-America Classic game. Kickoff start times are being finalized for all games and will be announced later.
ISU's Missouri Valley Football Conference slate remains unaffected and will begin on Oct. 1 at home against Southern Illinois, following a bye week for the Redbirds on Sept. 24. The Redbirds will then travel to face UNI on Oct. 8, before returning home on Oct. 15 to host South Dakota in the annual Homecoming contest.Â
Back-to-back road games at Indiana State (Oct. 22) and North Dakota State (Oct. 29) will follow for the Redbirds, who then start the month of November with a home matchup against Youngtown State (Nov. 5). A road tilt at South Dakota State on Nov. 12 and a home matchup against in-state foe Western Illinois on Nov. 19 will round out the regular-season schedule for ISU.
