NORMAL, Ill. - Illinois State volleyball senior Nicole Lund has medically retired, as announced by the program on Monday.
"We are thankful for Nicole's dedication to the program during her time at Illinois State. I know this wasn't an easy decision for her," first-year head coach Allie Matters said. "Unfortunately, injuries are part of sport, and we support her in her decision to move on from volleyball. We wish her the best moving forward and she will always be a Redbird!"
She medically redshirted the 2019 season after playing in five matches and suffered multiple nagging injuries in 2022 before electing to medically retire.
A 2022 Redbird Classic All-Tournament and 2021 All-MVC Tournament Team honoree, Lund concludes her career with 414 career kills and a career .268 hitting percentage. She ranks 22nd in Illinois State history with 263 career total blocks. Hitting a career-best .320 in 2022, Lund recorded the match-clinching kill in the Redbirds' five-set victory over 25th-ranked Illinois on 9/17/22.
Lund is expected to graduate in May 2023 with a degree in marketing.
