NORMAL, Ill. - Illinois State volleyball junior Kaitlyn Prondzinski has medically retired, as announced by the program on Wednesday.
"We are grateful for Kaitlyn's loyalty and contribution to Illinois State and the volleyball program," first-year head coach Allie Matters said. "Injuries are always out of our control, and we know KP didn't make the decision lightly. We support what's best for her and her future. Kaitlyn is a Redbird for life!"
Prondzinski missed 11 matches due to injury in 2021 and three matches due to injury in spring 2021, prior to suffering another injury in 2022.
The 2021 MVC Tournament MVP after posting 20 kills in the Redbirds' comeback victory over top-seeded Loyola Chicago, Prondzinski concludes her career with 511 career kills and a career .262 hitting percentage. Prondzinski was named MVC Player of the Week and to the 2022 Redbird Classic All-Tournament Team after recording 49 kills in three matches, highlighted by a 21-kill, .600 hitting percentage performance in four sets against Oral Roberts.
Prondzinski is expected to graduate in May 2024 with a degree in psychology and criminal justice.
