Normal, Ill. - Illinois State Soccer couldn't break through as the Redbirds dropped a tight 1-0 road contest Sunday afternoon at Southern Illinois.
Goalkeeper Audrey Brown posted Illinois State's fourth scoreless half over the last four games, but the Salukis broke through with a 65th-minute goal from Liz Brechtel. The Redbirds generated solid chances but couldn't put an equalizer on the board in the second half.
Brown opened the second half with a big save in the 50th minute as she denied Saluki Emma Spotak.
The Redbirds generated just four shots in the match, but a pair of first-half opportunities went on frame Sunday afternoon. Senior Allison Baker recorded two shots in the match, including a 34th-minute chance that went on frame but was saved by Southern Illinois goalie Ary Lougher. Fellow senior Katherine Felton tallied Illinois State's other shot on goal in th 22nd minute.
