Redbirds Cap Fall Season with Third Place Finish

GOOSE CREEK, S.C. – The Illinois State women's golf team shot a final-round-low 303 at the 2022 Buccaneer Classic, as the team finished third at the event, the final of the team's fall season.

The Redbirds put together rounds of 301, 306, and 303 for a three-round 910, nine strokes away from second place. Tournament host Charleston Southern won its second consecutive event of the fall season with a three-round 895, while Western Carolina, ranked 100th in the most recent Golfweek Team Collegiate rankings took second with a 901. UNC Asheville (943), Gardner-Webb (953), Radford (960), Winthrop (970), Appalachian State (981), Presbyterian (983), and Citadel (1063) round out the ten schools in the field.

Senior and defending MVC Golfer of the Year Ali Schrock finished fourth overall with a three-round 224 while Avalon Woodward's 229 has her in 10th place at the culmination of the round. Kira Wolf and Vinisha Gunaseelan each tied for 12th with a 232, while Emma Rouger finished just behind at 15th with a 233. Playing as an individual, Dani Grace Schrock tied for 31st with a 242.

The top round on the final day came from Gunaseelan, who finished with a one-over 73. Starting on the third hole she opened her day with eight pars and a pair of bogeys over the first 10 holes. She came back with birdies in two of her next three holes, before closing her day with five consecutive pars to end with a 73.

Wolf's third-round 75 started with two pars, two birdies, and two bogeys over her first six holes. Over her next 11 holes she had four bogeys and seven pars before closing her tournament with a birdie on the 18th hole to finish three shots over par.

Woodward – in her first top-10 finish of the season – opened and closed strong with a birdie and two pars to open her day and ended with another birdie and seven pars over the final seven holes. On the day she finished four strokes over par.

Ali Schrock closed her day with two birdies and a bogey over her final three holes en route to her seven-over 79, while Rouger's final round that saw nine pars and a birdie, ended with an eight-over 80. Dani Grace Schrock had two birdies and nine pars for the seven-over 79.

The Redbirds return to action on February 6-7 at the Falcon Florida Classic hosted at Lakewood Ranch, Florida.
