Normal, Ill. – Illinois State Swimming and Dive added two standout swimmers to the 2023 signing class Wednesday on National Signing Day.
The 2023 signing class from the Redbirds includes Sylvia Admire (Claremore, OK.) and Lauren Campbell (Ontario, Canada).
Sylvia Admire | Freestyle | Claremore, OK | Claremore
Admire brings high school state championship experience to the next level as she took home a pair of titles at the 2022 Oklahoma State Championships in February. Admire swam the 100 and 200 freestyles for Claremore, where she set a new personal best of 51.77 to win in the 100 finals. She was roughly one second off her best for a 200 finals win with a time of 1:53.72.
"We are very excited to welcome Sylvia to the Redbird Family," Illinois State head coach Caitlin Hamilton said. "Sylvia brings a wide range of versatility and experience with her into our program. Getting to know the Admire family has been such a pleasure, and we can't wait to have Sylvia in Normal next year."
Lauren Campbell | Freestyle/IM | Ontario, Canada | Thames Valley
Campbell has been a national-level swimmer since the age of 12 and qualified for the 2020 Canadian Olympic Trials in the 200m IM, 400m IM and 400m freestyle. At the Canadian Junior and Senior National levels, she is currently a qualifier in the 400m freestyle, 400m freestyle, 200m IM and 400m IM.
"Lauren is an exciting addition for the Redbirds," Hamilton said. "She brings a wealth of international experience and passion for the sport. Her versatility across events will make an immediate impact within our team and the MVC. Lauren is going to be fun to watch during her time as a Redbird, and we cannot wait to have her here in Normal."
