OMAHA, Neb. – A weekend trip to Omaha resulted in a pair of wins for Illinois State, as the Redbirds (6-3) picked up a 5-2 win at Creighton to finish the weekend 2-0.
In doubles action, the No. 1 duo of Tijana Zlatanovic and Tara Damnjanovic picked up a 6-4 and the No. 3 duo of Alexandra Abyasova and Laura Fitzgerald cruised to a 6-1 win to secure the early doubles point for the Redbirds.
Creighton jumped out to an early lead in singles play with a win at No. 2, before a win by Abreu at No. 6 in straight sets tied the match up. The Redbirds then took the lead with a win at No. 1 by Zlatanovic, but the Bluejays knotted things up once again with a win at No. 5 to make it 2-2. That's when the Redbirds came up a with a pair of big three-set wins at No. 4 by Damnjanovic and No. 3 by Potsi to secure the victory.
ISU returns home next Saturday, Feb. 26, to Evergreen Racquet Club to host Eastern Illinois at 4:30 p.m.
