SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – Illinois State (10-13, 1-0 MVC) scored 10 runs on 10 hits to earn a dominate win over Missouri State (8-13, 1-2 MVC) in the Redbirds' first conference contest of the 2022 season, beating the Bears 10-2 in six innings.

HOW IT HAPPENED
	- Another early lead for the Redbirds, as Emme Olson and Abby Knight drew a pair of two-out walks in the top of the first. Jayden Standish poked a single into shallow center field to score Olson from second. 
- After a quiet second inning from both squads, the 'Birds added another pair of runs in the top of the third on a double and an error. Delainey Bryant had a leadoff single to center field and stole second. Knight then doubled to deep right center, scoring Bryant. Standish hit a ground ball to the shortstop, who made an error, allowing Knight to cross the plate. 
- Missouri State did not collect its first hit until the bottom half of the fourth on a single to right field that started a two-out rally. The Bears put up a pair of runs in the fourth on three hits to make it 3-2, advantage Redbirds.
- Illinois State responded in the top of the fifth as the 'Birds plated four more runs. Bryant started the inning with a leadoff walk and Reili Gardner followed with her first hit of the game, a bunt single down the third-base line. Olson drew her second walk of the game to load the bases. Knight then collected her second RBI of the day as Bryant was able to score on a groundout to the shortstop. Standish ended up on second on an error, and Gardner and Olson came around to score. 
- With the 'Birds up 6-2, Chloe Jefferson made a pinch-hit appearance for Addison Masching in the fifth with one out, Standish on second. Jefferson lined a single to center field and Standish scored, forcing a pitching change for the Bears. Illinois State was up 7-2 heading into the sixth. 
- The Redbirds scored another three runs on five hits in the top of the sixth to seal the deal. Kaili Chval, Bryant and Gardner led off the inning with back-to-back-to-back singles to load the bases. Olson hit a sacrifice fly to right field that scored Chval followed by a 2-RBI infield single for Knight, putting the 'Birds on top 10-2.
- Hannah Ross got four of the last five outs herself via the strikeout to secure a 10-2 win for Illinois State in the Redbirds' first conference game of the season. 
- Knight had four RBI against the Bears and is the first Redbird to post a four-RBI game this season.

The Redbirds will play a doubleheader against the Bears tomorrow (Mar. 20) in Springfield, Mo. beginning at 12 p.m. CT. Both games will be on ESPN3.
