Zlatanovic, Damnjanovic Bring Home Weekly MVC Honors

ST. LOUIS – For the second time this season, Illinois State has swept the weekly Missouri Valley Conference women's tennis honors as Tijana Zlatanovic was named the Singles Player of the Week and the duo of Zlatanovic and Tara Damnjanovic were named the Doubles Team of the Week on Tuesday by the league office.

The Singles Player of the Week honor is the third for Zlatanovic in 2022. The reigning MVC Player and Newcomer of the Year began MVC play on a high note, picking up a straight-set win over Bradley's Bozana Lojpur on Sunday in the Redbirds' 6-1 win over the Braves. After winning the first set 6-3, Zlatanovic had to come back from a 4-1 deficit in set two and went on to win a 7-4 tiebreaker to take the second set and the match. With the win, Zlatanovic is now undefeated at 6-0 at the No. 1 spot in her career in MVC play.

The defending No. 1 doubles team in the conference started conference action with a win against the Braves. Zlatanovic and Damnjanovic picked up a 6-3 win over Bradley's Madalena Andrade and Kirstin Hailey at the No. 1 spot to help the Redbirds secure the early doubles point. With the win, Zlatanovic and Damnjanovic are now 10-5 at No. 1 this spring and duo has won their last three matches overall.

Winners of their last three matches, the Redbirds return to action on Wednesday, March 30, at home against Saint Louis at the Evergreen Racquet Club in Bloomington. First serve is set for Noon.
