NORMAL, Ill. – A pair of Redbird divers are set to compete at the NCAA Zone C Diving Championships at the Donald B. Canham Natatorium in Ann Arbor, Michigan on Monday, March 7 and Tuesday, March 8.
Freshman phenom Eva Reyes qualified in both the 1-meter and 3-meter dives, while junior Kamryn Blake will join Reyes in the 1-meter competition. This is the second time Blake has qualified for the NCAA Zone C Championships, while as a freshman Reyes has qualified for the first time.
The duo will compete on one-meter on Monday, March 7 at 12 p.m. (1 p.m. EST), while Reyes will compete on three-meter on Tuesday, March 8 at 12 p.m. (1 p.m. EST).
QUICK HITS
- Reyes was named the Missouri Valley Conference Freshman Diver of the Year after being crowned the MVC Champion in the 1-meter with a personal-best score of 300.45 and placing third in the 3-meter competition to earn All-MVC Honors.
- Blake's score of 275.20 was the best 1-meter score of her career, placing second at the MVC Championships behind Reyes and qualifying for the Zone C meet.
- Reyes, a four-time MVC Diver of the Week, posted a best score of 299.25 in the 3-meter this season.
REDBIRDS AT THE NCAA ZONE DIVING CHAMPIONSHIPS
Reyes and Blake continue the streak of Redbird divers qualifying for the NCAA Zone Championships, dating back to 2018. Since 2018, at least one Redbird diver has qualified for Zones, including 2020 when Blake last qualified along with teammate Caroline Lecoeur.
NCAA CHAMPIONSHIPS QUALIFICATIONS
In total, Zone C is allotted nine spots on one-meter and ten spots on three-meter. Any diver that qualifies for the NCAA Championships will be allowed to optionally enter any other event(s) at the championships, provided that the diver finished in the top 12 at the same zone meet and has achieved the zone qualifying score for that event prior to the NCAA Championships. The NCAA Championships will be held March 16-19 in Atlanta, Georgia.
