Redbirds Travel to Kirkwood for MVC Championship

KIRKWOOD, Mo. – The Illinois State women's golf team will look to do battle starting on Sunday, as the 'Birds travel to southwest St. Louis to compete in the 2022 Missouri Valley Conference Championship, hosted at Greenbriar Hills Country Club, starting on Sunday.

Last Time Out:  Using a final-round 298, the Illinois State Redbird women's golf team overcame a two-stroke deficit between rounds to end in a two-way tie at the top of the 2022 Redbird Spring Invitational, with ISU winning on a tiebreaker. Additionally, junior Ali Schrock earned tournament medalist honors – the first of her career. The team stroke-play win, and the medalist honor, are ISU's first since the 2014 Redbird Fall Invitational. In all, six different Redbird golfers finished inside of the top-20, led by Schrock's one-under 143 (73-70). Avalon Woodward tied for fourth with a 148 (73-75) and Kehler Koss tied for eighth with a 150 (74-76). Kira Wolf – playing as an individual – finished in a tie for 17th with a 153 (78-75) with Emma Rouger (78-77) and Vinisha Gunaseelan (77-78) each tying for 19th with a two-round 155. Jasmine Yi, in her final home tournament, finished 45th with a 162 (84-78).

Redbird History at MVC Championship: No other school in the MVC has won as many titles - 13 - as the Redbirds have in women's golf, while the 'Birds have also had 13 individual champions, more than double the second-highest total in conference history. The most recent ISu victory came during the 2013 season, as Katie Jean also earned her second consecutive medalist honor at the Championship. In a six-year stretch from 2008 to 2013, ISU won five titles, while also bringing home four individual medalist honors during that span.
