NORMAL, Ill. – The Illinois State baseball team dropped the series finale to Valparaiso, 2-1, on Sunday at Duffy Bass Field.
Third-year sophomore Jordan Lussier threw six innings, allowing two earned runs for the Redbirds (13-17 overall, 2-4 Missouri Valley Conference) while fifth-year senior Colin Wyman fired 2.2 scoreless innings in relief.
Valparaiso jumps to 13-18 overall and 2-4 in the MVC.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Illinois State got runners to second and third in the 1st inning but was unable to cash in.
Valparaiso scored the game's first run on a 3rd-inning double before adding another in the 6th inning.
A double from fifth-year senior Nick Gile plated ISU's first run in the 6th inning, cutting the deficit to 2-1.
ISU had a runner reach second in both 7th and 9th innings but did not score the tying run.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- For the second time in the series and second time of 2022, Illinois State did not walk a batter. The Redbirds also did not hit a batter or make an error. ISU has not had zero walks, HBPs, and errors since 3/6/21 at SEMO.
- Fifth-year senior Jake McCaw extended his on-base streak to 21 games.
- The Redbirds have lost 47-straight games when trailing at the conclusion of the 6th inning.
