NORMAL, Ill. – Illinois State will look to extend its winning streak to five on Sunday, when the Redbirds (10-5) continue Missouri Valley Conference play Missouri State (0-13) at 10 a.m. at the Evergreen Racquet Club in Bloomington.
The Redbirds head into the weekend as winners of their last four matches, including last weekend's MVC opener against Bradley and Wednesday's non-conference matchup against Saint Louis.Â
The Redbirds scored the first point of the day against the Billikens after securing two wins in the doubles competition. The No. 3 duo of Laura Fitzgerald and Alexandra Abyasova rolled to a 6-0 win to improved to 19-2 overall this season as a tandem. The doubles point was earned when Penelope Abreu and Maria Potsi earned a 6-3 victory at No. 2 to give ISU the advantage heading into singles competition. Singles wins by Tijana Zlatanovic, Elena Jankulovska, Potsi and Tara Damnjanovic added the final points for the Redbirds in their 5-2 win.
Missouri State opened Missouri Valley Conference play Saturday at Bradley, dropping a hard-fought (5-2) match to Braves. The match continued the Bears' long road stretch as the team's sixth-straight dual away from the Cooper Tennis Complex in Springfield. Sunday's match with the Redbirds will be their seventh away from home.
