DES MOINES, Iowa – No. 2 seed Illinois State got off to a great start at the 2022 Missouri Valley Conference Tennis Championship, rolling to a 4-0 win over No. 7 seed Missouri State Friday afternoon at the Roger Knapp Tennis Center on the campus of Drake University.
ISU got off to a quick start by winning at both No. 1 and No. 2 doubles to earn the first point of the match. The No. 1 tandem of Tijana Zlatanovic and Tara Damnjanovic cruised to a 6-2 win and the No. 2 duo of Penelope Abreu and Maria Potsi also earned a 6-2 win to give the Redbirds the early advantage.
In singles action, ISU picked up two quick points due to forfeits at No. 5 and No. 6 to make the score 3-0. A win by Zlatanovic at No. 1 over Juliette Robinson by a score of 6-1, 6-4 secured the 4-0 victory for the Redbirds, as the remaining three matches were left unfinished.
The Redbirds will take on the winner of the Bradley/UNI match on Saturday at 2 p.m. in the semifinals.
