TERRE HAUTE, Ind. – The Illinois State baseball team scored first but fell the in the series rubber match at Indiana State, 5-2, on Sunday at Bob Warn Field.
Illinois State (10-11 overall, 1-2 MVC) got solo home runs from second-year Jonathan Sabotnik and fifth-year senior Nick Gile but the Sycamores (15-8 overall, 2-1 MVC) scored two runs in the 4th and three runs in the 5th inning to take control of the game.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Sabotnik homered to right field in the 2nd inning to give the 'Birds a 1-0 lead but the Sycamores scored twice in the 4th inning to lead, 2-1.
Gile led off the 5th inning with a solo shot to left-center to tie the game before Indiana State scored three times with two outs in the 5th inning.
Illinois State generated just two base runners in the final four innings.

- Fifth-year junior Jared Hart fired a 1-2-3 8th inning as his ERA dropped to 1.86 in 2022.
- Sabotnik has homered in back-to-back games.
