ST. LOUIS – For the second straight week, freshman Delainey Bryant has been named the Missouri Valley Conference Newcomer of the Week after her performance in the final weekend of conference play at Southern Illinois, as announced by the conference office on Tuesday.
Illinois State's series with the Salukis got cut short and the teams were only able to manage a doubleheader on Saturday, May 7.
Bryant was 4-for-6 in the doubleheader with a double, an RBI and a run scored. Her double was her ninth of the season and came in the first game against the Salukis along with her RBI and her run scored. She boasted a .667 average while slugging .833 across the two games.Â
She posted two multi-hit contests, going 2-for-3 in both, which brings her total to 13 multi-hit games this season, tying her for second-most on the team. Bryant also extended her hit streak to five games, and has had four consecutive multi-hit games. Her 29 RBI, 18 of which are in conference play, lead the team in the category. Bryant is also the team leader in runs scored with 35 and stolen bases with 10. Â

Illinois State is ready for the MVC Tournament in Springfield, Mo. hosted by the Missouri State Lady Bears. The Redbirds will play on Thursday, May 12 at 1:30 p.m., and they will play the winner of Wednesday's matchup of No. 10 Valparaiso versus No. 7 Indiana State.Â
