Redbird Student-Athletes Post 3.27 GPA In Spring 2022 Semester

NORMAL, Ill. – Illinois State student-athletes continue to achieve high marks in the classroom, as the Redbirds compiled a grade-point average (GPA) of 3.27 during the Spring 2022 semester, as announced by Assistant Athletics Director for Academics and Life Skills Joe Klausner on Thursday.

"Our Redbirds had a great spring semester in the classroom and have a lot to be proud of," Klausner said. "The standard of competing on the field of play and in the classroom is a value we instill in all our student-athletes and the success they had this spring is only a reflection of their commitment. There have been many Redbirds that have paved the way and helped lay the building blocks for a culture of academic excellence and it continues to this day. It has now been 13 consecutive semesters of a 3.20 semester GPA or higher by our Redbird student-athletes which is a tremendous feat."

A total of 321 Redbird student-athletes were named to the AFNI Honor Roll accounting for over 74 percent of the group, including every member of the women's golf and men's tennis teams. Additionally, a total of 112 student-athletes posted perfect 4.0 GPAs during the spring semester.

"Having tremendous support from administration, coaches, the Karin L. Bone Athletics Study Center staff, and so many others that value a holistic approach to student-athlete development makes sharing these moments even more special," Klausner continued. "It has always taken a unified, team effort to impact the experiences of our Redbird student-athletes and that will never change. We certainly have a tremendous group of student-athletes that represent this institution, department, and community."

ISU's women's programs combined for a 3.55 cumulative GPA, and the Illinois State men's teams combined to earn a 3.03 semester GPA. The Redbird tennis teams recorded the top GPA marks of the spring, with the women leading all programs with a 3.77 and the men's team leading the men's programs with a 3.61.
