RICHMOND, Va. – Illinois State junior diver Kamryn Blake has been named to the College Swimming & Diving Coaches Association of America (CSCAA) Scholar All-American Second Team for the first time in her career after an impressive 2021-22 season in both the classroom and the pool.
Blake, a Nursing major, has maintained a 3.82 cumulative grade point average and posted a GPA of 3.82 during the 2021-22 school year, including a 4.0 during the spring semester. The Missouri Valley Conference 1-meter dive runner up competed in all eight meets for the Redbird divers and was named to the MVC Scholar-Athlete Team for the second-straight year.
With her runner-up finish at the Valley Championships, Blake garnered First Team All-MVC honors for the first time. She recorded a personal-best score 275.20 in the 1-meter advancing her to the NCAA Zone C Diving Championships where she went on to post the best 1-meter score by an Illinois State diver at Zones since 2018 with a total of 238.10.
"This award is well deserved," Diving Coach, Tori Lamp-Wood said. "Kamryn does an excellent job balancing her grueling academic load as well as putting in the hard work to be successful in the pool."
To qualify for First-Team Scholar All-America, student-athletes earned a minimum GPA of 3.5 and participated in their national championship. Second-Team selections also earned a 3.50 GPA or higher and achieved a "B" time standard for the national championship or participated at a diving zone qualification meet.
As a team, the Illinois State was announced as a CSCAA Scholar-Athlete All-America Team this spring after recording the eighth-best grade point average among NCAA Division I women's swimming & diving programs. The Redbirds, who finished second at the Missouri Valley Conference Swimming & Diving Championships, posted a grade point average of 3.74 to earn the honor, which is not only among the top-10 in the nation, but also the top GPA in the MVC.
