ITHACA, New York – The Illinois State gymnastics team had 11 student-athletes recognized as Scholastic All-America team members for the 2021-22 academic year based on data submitted to the Women's Collegiate Gymnastics Association (WCGA).
Overall, there were 228 (14.53%) student-athletes with a 4.0 GPA, and a record number of gymnasts – 1,077 (68.84%
of all reporting gymnasts) with a 3.5 or better GPA, the most reported since 2008. This is the second year in a row where more than 1,000 Scholastic All-America team members were awarded.
"I'm extremely proud of our team's accomplishments this past year," ISU head coach Bob Conkling said. "To have 11 members of the team reach Scholastic All-America status from the WCGA is a tribute to the team's dedication and hard work, both in the gym and the classroom."
Redbird gymnasts Isabelle Fox, Carly Hawksworth, Julia Heiner, Reagan Hestermann, Sofia Iribarren, Jaye Mack, Katherine McGowan, Jazmine Neely, Mia Quigg, Mya Robinson and Kaylee Sugimoto each posted GPAs of 3.5 or above to earn WCGA Scholastic All-America honors.
"Congratulations on another amazing, record-breaking year of academic success for all of the student athletes, coaches and support staff," Melanie Hall, WCGA Chair of the Board and Head coach at Cornell University, said. "To continually pursue excellence in both the classroom, as well as the gym, takes immense effort, preparation and time management and is truly inspiring. It is exciting to see the continued academic success of so many gymnasts across the country, in all divisions, year after year."
The WCGA is the advocate for women's collegiate gymnastics and puts out the list annually.
