Illinois State falls 2-0 at Utah

Salt Lake City, UT - Audrey Brown made five second-half saves as Illinois State Soccer (0-4-0, 0-0-0 MVC) fell 2-0 to Utah (3-0-1, 0-0-0 Pac 12) on the road Sunday evening. The Utes used goals in the 41st and 75th minutes to move by Illinois State.

Freshmen Hillary Griffin and Kelsi McLaughlin made the first start of their career as Illinois State closed a two-game road-swing against the Utes. Neither side put a shot on frame through 40 scoreless minutes, until Kyla Jennings gave the Utes a 1-0 lead just before the half.

The Redbirds had trouble generating meaningful chances throughout the match Sunday evening. Illinois State finished the match with one shot on goal, a 50th-minute ball from Allison Baker that was saved by Utah goalkeeper Evie Vitali.

Griffin drew a foul in just outside the box the 61st minute, leading to another opportunity for Illinois State. The free kick was played into the box and Michaela Kirschten set a shot wide of the net.

Utah controlled possession for most of the match and led the shot count by a 23-2 margin. The Utes put seven shots on frame for Brown, who made all five of her saves in the second half.
