ST. LOUIS, Mo. - Junior Kaitlyn Prondzinski was named the Missouri Valley Conference Player of the Week while freshman Regan Haith was named the MVC's Defensive Player of the Week for their performances in the Redbird Classic, as announced by the conference office on Tuesday.
Prondzinski, who was named Redbird Classic tournament's MVP after Illinois State went 3-0, hit .407 on the weekend with 48 kills. She added nine blocks. Prondzinski needed just four sets to record a career-high 21 kills against Oral Roberts, hitting a robust .600 in the tournament-opening match.
Haith had at least four blocks in all three matches, tallying a total of 15 for the weekend. She leads the MVC with 29 blocks in 2022. Haith also had eight digs on the weekend, posting a career-high four against SEMO on Saturday.
Both student-athletes earned their first career weekly MVC honor as Illinois State defeated Oral Roberts (four sets), Green Bay (five sets), and SEMO (three sets) to open its home slate.
Illinois State plays Oakland and Queens (Charlotte) on September 9 before playing tournament host Memphis on September 10.
