Seneca Knight Named MVC Newcomer of the Week

NORMAL, Ill. - Illinois State fifth-year guard Seneca Knight has been named the MVC Newcomer of the Week after his performances against Bradley and Southern Illinois. 

Knight averaged 21.5 points per game for Illinois State, as the Redbirds went 1-1 with an overtime loss on the road at rival Bradley on Wednesday before returning and topping MVC-leader Southern Illinois on Sunday. He made 13-of-20 shots for the week (65.0%), was 4-of-5 from long range, and 13-of-15 (86.7%) from the charity stripe, as he also averaged four rebounds on the week with two assists, two blocks, and two steals.

Against the Braves he scored a team-high 19 points on 7-of-12 shooting from the field, 1-of-1 from beyond the arc, and 4-of-5 from the charity stripe. He also added seven rebounds and a steal against the Braves while playing 42 minutes. In the finale of the week against Southern Illinois he scored a season-high 24 points, converting on 6-of-8 shots from the field, 3-of-4 from long range and 9-of-10 from the free throw stripe. He also had two assists, two blocks, a steal and a rebound in ISU's win over Southern Illinois, and has now scored in double-figures in seven of his last eight games, averaging 16.0 points per game in that span.

The Redbirds, now 9-14 on the season, remain at home to host the UIC Flames at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, February 1, before traveling to face off against the Belmont Bruins on Saturday afternoon.
