Shadewald-led Redbirds Sweep Racers Saturday

NORMAL, Ill. – Looking to make it six wins in a row, Illinois State volleyball welcomed in the Murray State Racers on Saturday night to CEFCU Arena, as the Redbirds would take home a clean sweep and move themselves into sole possession of third in the MVC standings.

Sophomore Aida Shadewald led the Redbirds on Saturday, going for a new career high 23 kills in the sweep. The Prairie du Sac native surpassed her previous three-set career high (16) which came at Green Bay earlier this season (16).

Graduate student Bella Zeman amassed 12 kills on Saturday as part of a 58-kill night for the 'Birds.

Sophomore Emily Weber was impressive once more for the Redbirds as the Fishers, Ind. native notched her 13th straight match with at least 20 assists. Weber collected 47 assists on Saturday night to lead the match in the category.

Illinois State now stands at 8-12 overall and 6-2 in the MVC while Murray State drops to 12-6 overall and 6-3 in the MVC.

- Head coach Allie Matters now has 99 career wins as a head coach (Wright State and Illinois State), as she will look for win no. 100, and 21 as a Redbird, on Monday versus Bradley.

Illinois State will play their third match in four days when they welcome I-74 foe, Bradley, to CEFCU Arena Monday night with first serve at 6:00 p.m. CT.
