Stillwater, Okla.- The Redbirds concluded the 2023 cross country season at the 2023 Midwest Regional, held in Stillwater, Oklahoma on Friday.
With the best in the Midwest competing for two spots for the NCAA National Championship next week, the Redbirds fought hard in both races with the women placing 21st and the men finishing 17th.
On the women's side, graduate student Claire Fuhlhage led the way for the Redbirds as she as she finished in 53rd place with a time of 21:45.9. Fuhlhage finishes her cross country career with a win at the Hawkeye Invitational and two MVC Runner of the Week honors in the 2023 season. Junior Mattison Plummer finished in 73rd place with a time of 22:04.04. Junior Lauren Schulze finished in 111th with a time of 22:32.6, while sophomore Maggie Reed was right behind as she placed 143rd with a time of 23:06.7. Rounding out the top-5 was freshman Colleen Zeibert, as she finished 150th with a time of 23:13.3
On the men's side, junior Mathis Chavand earned NCAA All-Region honors placing 17th with a time of 30:59.5 as he was the first Missouri Valley Conference runner to cross the finish line. Junior Zack Loomis was just behind in the fourth pack,as he finished 39th with a time of 31:38.3. Graduate student Nick Doud finished 98th with a time of 32:33.8 and freshman Dylan Meyers ran his first 10,000-meter race and placed 130th with a time of 33:05.0. Rounding out the top-5 was senior Charlie Wetzel, as he placed 132nd with a time of 33:05.9.
