LAST TIME AGAINST BRADLEY
Illinois State used a 15-kill outing by Bella Zeman as well as a strong defensive showing to come out on top of a five-set battle with I-74 rival Bradley on Oct. 16. The win would also earn head coach Allie Matters her 100th career win as a college head coach, and first over the Braves since taking over at ISU in 2022.
Meanwhile, sophomore Emily Weber led the Redbirds with a match-high 42 assists while senior Nora Janka led the way with four service aces for the 'Birds. Finally, it was sophomore Aida Shadewald guiding the 'Birds defense as she finished with five blocks on the night as part of a new five-set season high blocks total for ISU (10).
DIGS BY HINKLE
Illinois State graduate student Mari Hinkle continues to shine for the Redbirds as she currently sits third in the MVC and 9th nationally for digs/set with a clip of 5.36.
HEADING TO SPRINGFIELD
Illinois State will be one of the teams competing in the upcoming eight-team MVC tournament at Missouri State on Nov. 19-22.
The Redbirds claimed a spot in the MVC Tournament last Friday, despite a five-set loss to Southern Illinois, thanks in part to a four-set victory by Evansville over Belmont. Â
The 2023 MVC Volleyball Tournament takes place from the Hammons Student Center on the campus of Missouri State University from Nov. 19-22.
SOPHOMORE SHOWCASE
Illinois State sophomores Aida Shadewald and Emily Weber turned in an unforgettable performance versus Murray State on Oct. 14, as Shadewald would finish with a career-high 23 kills while Weber amassed 47 assists as part of ILS' sweep of the Racers.
Shadewald's 23 kills are tied for ninth-most in a three-set match while Weber's 47 assists are tied for seventh-most in a three-set match this season across NCAA Division I VB.
