NORMAL, Ill. - The Illinois State Basketball Coaches Shows, featuring Illinois State head men's basketball coach Ryan Pedon and women's basketball head coach Kristen Gillespie will air tonight live from BloNo Pizza Co. in Normal.
Fans unable to attend the show can listen on WJBC 1230 AM, the Varsity Network, and on GoRedbirds.com., as Pedon and Gillespie recap the Sunday afternoon exhibition doubleheader against Illinois Wesleyan and preview their upcoming match-ups.
Tonight's Kristen Gillespie show, hosted by Greg Halbleib, will be conducted entirely by phone, and starts tonight at 6 p.m. Gillespie will be joined by Redbird graduate forward Hannah Kelle. Kelle, who has been hampered by injury, has not seen action in a game for the Redbirds this season. Last season she played in 25 games, averaging 7.4 minutes per contest, scoring 35 points with 28 rebounds.
Illinois State women's basketball (5-1 this season) comes into the show having picked up a pair of wins at the Saint Mary's Thanksgiving Classic MTE with wins over UT Arlington and Saint Mary's. The Redbirds remain at home for a Thursday, November 30 battle against Chicago State before heading to Raleigh, North Carolina on Sunday, December 3 against NC State.
The Ryan Pedon Show follows at 7 p.m., hosted by John Fitzgerald and Mike Matthews. Pedon will be joined this week by assistant coach Jason Slay and freshman guard Johnny Kinziger. Kinziger has played in each of the team's six games, and averages 8.3 points per game with seven assists, seven steals, and is shooting 53 percent from the field and 41 percent from long range.
The men's basketball team (3-3 this season), went 1-2 at the Gulf Coast Showcase, topping Long Beach State in the opener before falling to High Point and Wright State in the final two contests. The Redbirds return to action this week with a pair of MVC games, the opener on Thursday, November 30 when the team travels to Chicago to take on the UIC Flames, before hosting Murray State on Sunday, December 3.
