IOWA CITY, IA - Illinois State Swimming and Diving secured two more titles while turning in an MVC and school record in Day three of the 2023 Valley Swimming and Diving Championships. Senior Madyson Morse set a new Valley record en route to the 100-yard breaststroke title while sophomore Emma Feltzer secured her first Valley title with a school record and win in the 200-yard freestyle.
After winning a second-straight 200-yard IM title Wednesday, Morse won her second title at the 2023 Valley Championships on Thursday. She brought down the Valley and Valley championship record with a prelim time of 1:00.64 before breaking that mark again in the finals, going 1:00.34. She is the second Redbird to win multiple swimming titles at a single Valley Championship under head coach Caitlin Hamilton and the first since 2020, when Valley Swimmer of the Year Kierston Farley-Sepe won three events.
Feltzer took home her first Valley crown with a 200-yard Freestyle win for the Redbirds. She broke Marissa Yontz's 2015 school record (1:48.35), going 1:48.21 in the finals Thursday night.
The Redbirds have won four titles at the 2023 Valley Championships, which stands as the most at a single Valley Championship in Hamilton's tenure. With wins from sophomore diver Eva Reyes, Morse and Feltzer, it is the first time under Hamilton that three different Redbirds have won a title at a single Valley championship.
Action resumes tomorrow at 10:30 a.m. in the final day at Valley Championships.
