Redbirds Score First, Fall at Austin Peay to Even Series

CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. - Fourth-year junior Shay Kubo laced an RBI single in the opening frame, but the Illinois State baseball team struggled to muster much offense in a 9-1 defeat at Austin Peay on Saturday at Raymond C. Hand Park as the series is even through two games.

HOW IT HAPPENED  

Fourth-year junior Greg Nichols and second-year sophomore Noah Rabin both recorded two-out singles to set-up a Kubo RBI single in the 1^st inning.

Austin Peay struck for four in the 4^th inning before scoring five more over the next three innings to lead, 9-1.

Rabin and Kubo were both stranded on second and third base in the 1^st and 4^th innings.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE 

• Rabin and Kubo each swiped two bases, marking the first time the 'Birds have had multiple players with multiple steals since 5/14/17 at Southern Illinois (Ryan Hutchison and Noah Sadler each had two as part of a seven-steal day for ISU).
• Four steals are in the most in a game by the 'Birds since 4/19/21 at Southern Illinois (four SB)

• Freshman Thomas Harper tossed a perfect 8^th inning, recording a pair of strikeouts in his collegiate debut.

Illinois State is scheduled to play at 1:00 p.m. CT on Sunday at Austin Peay in the series rubber match.
