NORMAL, Ill. - Illinois State junior Cassidy Carey, sophomore Emma Feltzer and senior Madyson Morse earned College Sports Communicators All-District Team honors, as announced by the organization Tuesday morning.
The honor, which recognizes the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances in the pool and in the classroom, puts the Redbird trio on the ballot for CSC Academic All-America honors to be announced in mid-March.
Carey, who has earned a 4.00 cumulative grade point average as a psychology major, was an MVC Scholar Athlete Team honoree and an All-MVC Honorable mention selection at the 2023 MVC Championships. She broke the program's 200-yard backstroke record en route to a fifth-place finish for the Redbirds.
Feltzer won her first MVC gold last month with title in the 200-yard freestyle. An MVC Scholar Athlete Team selection, she broke school records in the 100-yard freestyle (49.88) and 200-yard freestyle (1:48.21) at the 2023 Valley Championships. Feltzer carries a 3.94 cumulative GPA with a major in psychology.
Morse posted an historic performance for Illinois State at the Valley Championships. She won three gold medals and helped Illinois State earn four relay silver medals en route to Valley Swimmer of the Year and Valley Scholar Athlete of the Year honors. She took home the 200-yard IM, 100-yard breaststroke and 200-yard breaststroke titles while breaking three school records, a pair of Valley records and a pair of Valley Championship records. Morse has earned a 3.76 cumulative GPA as an exercise science major.
