LINCOLN, Neb. - The Illinois State baseball team suffered its first shutout loss of 2023 on Saturday at Nebraska in a 12-0 decision at Hawks Field.
Fourth-year junior Jayson Hibbard threw 3.2 innings while allowing one run for the Redbirds (5-8 overall). Nebraska (9-4-1) has won nine of its last 10 games.
HOW IT HAPPENED
A 2nd-inning RBI double and two-RBI single that went off a Redbird defender yielded a 3-0 Nebraska lead after two innings.
The Huskers added four runs in the 3rd inning before scoring once in the 6th inning and four more times in the 7th inning.
Illinois State had runners on first and second base in the 5th, 8th, and 9th innings but was unable to score.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- Second-year freshman Luke Lawrence recorded his first start at second base in 2023. Lawrence started all three games at Central Arkansas at third base.
