NORMAL, Ill. – Illinois State head football coach Brock Spack has filled a vacancy on his coaching staff for the 2023 season, as former Kansas State graduate assistant Tevin Madison has been hired as an assistant coach and will work with the team's defensive backs. Madison fills the role vacated by Beyah Rasool, who took a similar role on the coaching staff at Bowling Green.
"Tevin came highly recommended to us from (former ISU assistant now at Kansas State) Brian Anderson and (Kansas State Head Coach) Chris Klieman who both know a lot about this league and what it takes to win here," Spack said. "We think he will be an excellent fit here working with our cornerbacks and are fortunate to have him as part of the staff given the timing."
Madison comes to Illinois State after spending the 2022 season with the Wildcats a defensive graduate assistant. In that role, Madison worked with the safeties while also helping break down film and run the scout team. He joined the Kansas State program after serving as the assistant defensive backs coach at Southeast Missouri State, where he helped the Redhawks finish with a 4-2 conference record to tie for second in the Ohio Valley Conference.
"This program has a lot of history and plays in one of the most competitive conferences in the country, and with my connections from Kansas State that have a history with Illinois State and the MVFC this seemed like a perfect fit for me," Madison said. "A lot of the guys in our room remind me a lot of myself when I was a player and they are always looking for more information, whether it be from film or meetings with me. They are taking our coaching great and I think they have a lot of upside moving forward."
A native of Fayette, Alabama, Madison began his collegiate career at Texas Tech, playing the 2014 through 2016 seasons, while he finished his career in 2017 at West Alabama. He also spent the 2019 season playing for the Iowa Barnstormers of the Indoor Football League.
