Redbirds Score 18 Times in Win Over Northern Illinois

(WRITTEN BY HEAD COACH STEVE HOLM)

DeKALB, Ill. – The 'Birds pounded out 14 hits while scoring 18 runs, their most runs scored during the 2023 season. Eight different players tallied a hit during the contest, marked by Shay Kubo's three hits. Greg Nichols, who started at second base, notched 2 homers and four RBIs. His two-homer game is his first multi-homer game of his Redbird career.

HOW IT HAPPENED (WRITTEN BY HEAD COACH STEVE HOLM)

The 'Birds jumped out in front by scoring eight runs in the top of the first. Adrian Flores had an RBI double the Greg Nichols followed that up with his first homer of the day.

In the top of the third, the 'Birds scored 3 more with hits by Rasmussen, Kubo, and Pacella.

Ryan Borberg started the game on the mound and the freshman was perfect through 3 until a lightning delay knocked him out of the game.

After Northern Illinois put 7 runs on the board in the bottom of the 6th ISU answered with 3 more runs of their own in the top of the 7th, which included Nichols' 2nd homer of the day and JP Gauthier's first hit of the season.

After the end of the seventh, the game was ruled officially over due to darkness.
