IOWA CITY, Iowa – The Illinois State baseball team was topped by Iowa, 7-4, on Tuesday at Duane Banks Field with the teams splitting the season series after the Redbirds beat the Hawkeyes on 3/28/23 in Normal.
Illinois State (17-24 overall) was led by third-year junior Auggie Rasmussen and freshman Shai Robinson, both of which reached base safely three times.
Rasmussen had three hits while Robinson recorded a walk and two doubles.
Iowa improves to 32-11 in their hunt for an at-large bid to the NCAA Tournament.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Rasmussen opened the scoring in the 1st inning with an RBI single to plate Robinson, but Iowa responded with a three-run home run in the bottom of the frame.
Robinson drew a bases-loaded walk in the 2nd inning before the Hawkeyes scored twice in the 4th inning to lead 5-2.
In the 5th inning, a two-RBI single by fourth-year junior Shaydon Kubo drew Illinois State within a run but Iowa scored once in the 5th inning and once in the 8th inning to secure the win.
Illinois State stranded eight runners while Iowa stranded six, half of which came in the 8th inning.

Illinois State is scheduled to host Evansville for a weekend series from May 5-7 at Duffy Bass Field.
