RICHMOND, Va. - Senior Madyson Morse and sophomore Eva Reyes were named Scholar All-Americans by the College Swimming and Diving Coaches Association of America, the organization announced Friday. The pair, who received CSCAA Scholar All-America Second Team honors, are coming off historic campaigns for the Redbirds last season.
Morse earned 200y IM, 100y Breast and 200y Breast titles en route to Valley Swimmer of the Year honors at the 2023 MVC Swimming and Diving Championships. She also recieved a second straight honor as MVC Scholar-Athlete of the Year and third straight selection to the MVC Scholar-Athlete Team. To cap off the year Morse, a three-time school record holder, became the first Redbird to be crowned at the CSCAA National Invitational Championship as she took home the 100-yard Breaststroke title with a mark of 1:00.68.
She has earned a 3.76 cumulative GPA as an exercise science major.
Reyes turned in another strong year on the boards, winning a second-straight 1M title and earning MVC Diver of the Year for the first time in her career last season. She is the first Diver in MVC history to win 1M titles as a freshman and sophomore. Reyes, a psychology major at Illinois State, also took home bronze in the 3M dive at the Valley Championships for First Team All-MVC honors. Reyes has earned First Team All-MVC honors in 1M and 3M in both of her appearances at the MVC Championships.
To be named to the CSCAA First-Team Scholar All-America, student-athletes must achieve a minimum GPA of 3.50 and participate in their respective national championship. Second-Team selections also earned a GPA of 3.50 or higher and met the "B" time standard for the national championship or participated in a diving zone qualification meet.
The CSCAA recognized 1,201 DI swimming and diving athletes, including 721 women and 480 men.
Seven athletes have now earned CSCAA Scholar All-American recognition under Illinois State swimming and diving head coach Caitlin Hamilton. Morse is the second swimmer to do so, joining fellow Valley Swimmer of the Year and 2020 CSCAA Scholar All-America Honorable mention selection Kiersten Farley-Sepe. Reyes, former teammate Kamryn Blake (twice) and Caroline Leceour (twice) have all been honored from the boards.
