Women’s Golf Adds Jinyoung Yun to Roster

NORMAL, Ill. – Illinois State head women's golf coach Bre Hall has announced that Jinyoung Yun has been added to the roster starting in the 2023-24 season to play golf for the Redbirds.

Yun, a native of Wynn Vale, South Australia, comes to Bloomington/Normal from Fresno State University where she played for three seasons, with two seasons of eligibility remaining.

Last season Yun averaged 76.96 strokes per round, finishing 14th at the Wyoming Cowgirl Classic, and 22nd in the Fresno State Classic. She shot a career-low-tying round of 68 in the final round of the Ron Moore Invitational in Denver, and her The Australian averaged 76.6 strokes per round in 2021-22 – the team's fourth-best scoring average on the year – with two top-20 finishes including taking 15th at the Chambers Bay Classic in early April.

She redshirted during the pandemic-shortened 2020-21 season, and as a freshman in 2019-20 she played in seven tournaments, averaging 74.9 strokes per round with three top-20 finishes before the season was stopped due to Covid. At the Las Vegas Collegiate Showdown she shot a career-low-tying 68 in the final round, before coming back at the next tournament – the Rebel Beach Intercollegiate – and shot a three-round 218, finishing two strokes over par for the three rounds.

Prior to her time at Fresno State she was selected to the South Australian Junior State Team from 2015-2018, and was team captain of the team in 2018. She was selected to the South Australian Women's Team during the same time span and was also team captain in 2018. She placed third at the South Australian Junior Amateur Championship in 2018 and earned the 2015 and 2017 South Australian Junior Sportsmanship Award. Yun was named the 2017 and 2018 South Australian Women's Vardon Trophy Winner and was the runner-up at the 2017 Aaron Baddeley International Junior Championships.

Last season the Redbirds had the program's second-lowest season scoring average in ISU history, while setting school records for lowest single team round, lowest three-round tournament score, individual tournament scoring low, and twice tied the single-round school record.
